The 6′ x 6′ Hartwood Silent Fence Section employs smart engineering to provide a residential section that combines attractive aesthetics with efficient noise reduction capabilities. Thick 17mm boards interlock with extended Tongue & Grooves and are installed in a rebated frame to prevent gaps from forming on the board surface, which would enable noise transmission. This enhances the effectiveness of the sections in reflecting undesired noise. Triform technology utilized in the board production gives each board a triangular shape on both sides of the panel, aiding in dispersing unwanted noise as sound waves encounter multiple surfaces and disperse.
Tests conducted on the section have shown its capacity to lower noise levels by up to 30 decibels (dB), which is comparable to reducing the noise generated by a gasoline lawnmower to the level of regular conversation. A 30dB noise reduction is akin to an 8-fold decrease in the perceived intensity of the noise. For optimal noise reduction effectiveness, the Silent Fence Section should be fastened to fence posts to eliminate noise transmission. This can be accomplished using slotted fence posts (timber or concrete) or by directly attaching the section to the post. Utilizing fence ‘U-brackets’ can result in an undesired opening.
Enhancing the panel’s capability to diminish unwanted noise can be further enhanced by affixing the sections on gravel boards to elevate the fence height to over 2 meters.
